Joining the Staff of Camp Horseshoe Summer Overnight Camp for Boys

Chris Giles - Head of Aquatics and Waterskiing, Chief of Golden Horseshoe, Eagle Chieftain, has been working with Fran and Jordan for seventeen years. Chris grew up on the Isle of Wight, England and is currently residing with his wife Casey in Phoenix, AZ where they celebrated the birth of their first son, Brady, this past year. In the off-season Chris produces and markets running events.

Kevin Kaminsky - Program Director, Head of Rookie Weekend, Wolf Chieftain, Kevin has been involved with Camp Horseshoe for 7 years. He was a three-sport varsity athlete in high school and two-sport collegiate athlete. He has been coaching basketball of all levels from third grade to a varsity high school assistant for the last ten years. Kevin has been an athletic program director for the Park District of Highland Park and is currently entering his tenth year as a coach for Highwood Small Fry and working full time in the off-season for Camp Horseshoe. In addition to his role at Camp Horseshoe, Kevin now runs basketball programs for Hi Five sports in the fall and winter.

Harry "Big H" Prendergast - Inspector General, Head of Polar Bears, Moon Chieftain, Big "H" is in his 30th season at Horseshoe. A teacher for 35 years and Athletic Director of Boys State in South Dakota. A veteran of Iwo Jima, and other battles in WWII, he played basketball in the Naval Olympics while in Japan—and won. Throughout an illustrious coaching career, he produced two professional football players and was himself a four-time Hall of Famer.

Bill Engel - Keeper of Traditions, Sun Chieftain, Head of Fishing, Baitcasting, and Fencing, has been a camper and counselor at Horseshoe for 24 seasons. He was in the last group to be initiated into the Golden Horseshoe Society by Doc H, the founder of Camp Horseshoe. In the off season he is a professor of literature at the University of the South (Sewanee, TN). He is an ASEP certified coach and received a diploma from the US Olympic Coaches College for Fencing and has been ranked nationally in epee.

Counselors

Derek Aghion - Derek is in his first year on staff and his 8th year at Camp Horseshoe.  He is found on the ski docks most of the time but is successful in all areas of camp.  He will be a senior at Deerfield High School in the fall.

Jonathon Armstrong - From New Zealand, Johnny can be found working as a lifeguard at the lake and all over camp. As a first year staff man, he is very excited for his first summer in the Northwoods at the Shoe.

Nimrod Aviam - is from Israel and works as a driver and riflery/archery instructor for the Shoe. This is his first year on staff, and just completed his time in the Israeli army.

Nyada Baldeh - is going into his sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison after being born and raised in Madison and then Plain, WI. Majoring in kinesiology, this is Nyada’s first summer at Camp Horseshoe. He can be found primarily at the basketball courts and football fields.

Alex Berman - From Deerfield, IL, Alex will be a junior at Indiana University Bloomington in the fall. He has had five years of camping experience in the Northwoods and this is his first year on Shoe Staff. Alex can be found all over camp, from sailing to soccer.

Scottie Berman - Hailing from Northbrook, Illinois, Scottie will be a senior in high school. He plays in the band and sings in the choir at Glenbrook North High School, and can't wait for a great summer at Camp Horseshoe! This will be his first year on staff, and his 8th total year at The Shoe.

Michael Bernstein - From Highland Park, Illinois, Michael will be attending the University of Illinois in the fall. He was on the varsity basketball and track teams and also played two years of high school volleyball at HPHS. This is his second year on staff, 8th at Horseshoe, and 10th summer at overnight camp.

Ben Blackman - Certified in climbing, in addition a 4 year high school wrestler. A member of the Na Ta Ne Dancer Family, he has been at the Shoe for seven years. Originally from Glencoe, Ben attends the University of Wisconsin Madison majoring in zoology. This is his third year on the staff.

Stuart Clarke - Head of the Waterfront, this is his third year on staff. With one more year left at Oxford University Brooks, he is studying sports, coaching, and physical education. He has started coaching his own rugby team this year, and can be found at the lake and all around camp.

Jordan Coff - From Los Altos, California, this is Jordan's fifth summer in the Northwoods, third at the Shoe, and first on staff. A sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he can be found at the climbing wall and heading the soccer ball on Doc H field.

Daniel Cohen - Daniel from Highland Park, Illinois where he wrestles and plays lacrosse. Tenacious Bison is his seventh year at the Shoe, this being his first year on staff.

Tomer Cohen - From Israel, "T.C." joins the Horseshoe staff for the first time as a driver and archery/riflery instructor. He has been a part of several Birthright trips as a soldier and plans on travelling around the U.S. after camp.

Josh Cowin - Stallion Chieftain comes from Highland Park, IL. He is a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, double majoring in Political Science and Sociology. He has 13 years of camping experience, this being his sixth year at Horseshoe and fifth year on the Horseshoe staff.

Luke Davis - Hailing from England, Luke is the #3 man on waterfront staff. He can be found down at the lake or footing a soccer ball on Doc H. This is his first year on staff.

Jimmy Davis - Recently graduated from the University of Waikato in New Zealand with a degree in Teaching and a degree in Sports and Leisure Studies. He will be working mainly as a lifeguard, but will use his expertise in various other areas such as wake boarding, kayaking and international sports like rugby. Jimmy's interests include surfing, rugby, snowboarding, the outdoors and, since he has been in the states, touch football.

Bob Deutsch - From Highland Park, IL, Bob Deutsch will be attending Indiana University in the Kelley School of Business. He can be found all over the basketball courts and is a proud member of the Friend Family. This will be his eighth year at Horseshoe, second on staff.

Ben Dinnies - Ben has just recently graduated from the University of MN, Duluth and will continue his education to receive his degree in Teaching. From Luck, WI, he has many years of camping experience as a second generation Horseshoe guy and knows riflery inside-out. This is his third summer at the Shoe.

Mel Dixon - From Johannesburg, South Africa, this is Mel's first year on staff. She can be found at the climbing wall as a certified instructor and playing all landsports around camp.

Dylan Eirinberg - From Highland Park, Rising Moon is in his seventh season at The Shoe and his first on staff. He will be a senior at Highland Park High School and can be found at the tennis courts.

Zoe Engel - Horseshoe Review Editor, Asst Head of the Waterfront, and Arts and Crafts Specialist. Zoe will be a junior at Indiana University majoring in Nonprofit Management and Fundraising. From Nashville, TN, she has had four years of camping experience in Maine and is in her fourth year on Shoe Staff.

Emily Erdrich - From Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Emily is a junior at UW-Eau Claire studying social work. She is climbing and lifeguard certified as well as working in the arts and crafts building. She also plays guitar and sings. This will be Emily's first year at Camp Horseshoe.

Evan Fiedler - From Scarsdale, New York, The Bold Warrior is in his sixth season at The Shoe and his first on staff. He will be entering his freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania this fall, and is on Ski Staff '11.

Ross Fiedler - From Scarsdale, NY, Ross will be a freshman at the University of Michigan in the fall. A member of the Golden Horseshoe society, Humble Spirit is in his seventh year at the Shoe and first on staff. An all around athlete, Ross can be found all over camp and at the tennis courts.

James Flath - A sophomore at Truman University, this is James' first year at the Shoe. A certified climbing instructor, he can be found at the climbing wall and will gladly help anyone with achieving goals this summer.

Jordan Fox - From Highland Park, IL, is attending his eighth year at Camp Horseshoe, first on staff. As the Co-head of Hockey, he can be found down by the rink and also at the baseball and lacrosse fields. Bold Moon is excited for his JC year.

Logan Goetsch - Hailing from Wausau, WI, Logan will be a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall. A member of the Ski Staff '11, he is an experienced boat driver and wake boarder. He can be found down at the docks and all around camp.

Richard Grimer - From Worcester, England, Richard just finished 4 years at University in Swansea where he studied Civil Engineering and received a Masters in Computer Networks. While at university, he played for the university basketball team for 3 years and enjoys all sports. He has a Red Cross Lifeguard certificate and has recently been certified on the climbing wall. This is Richard's first year at Camp Horseshoe.

Evan Hammer - From San Antonio, TX, this is Evan's first summer at Horseshoe. He can be found at the tennis courts and working on his trampball technique at the courts.

Mitchell Hammes - From Glencoe, IL, Mitchell will be a freshmen at Indiana University in the Kelley School of Business. He has nine years of camping experience in the Northwoods, 7 at Horseshoe. This is his second year on staff. A member of the Bear family, he can be found playing all land sports.

Chris Harms - From Pewaukee, Wisconsin is in his seventh season at Camp Horseshoe, this being his first on staff. Cheerful Moon attends Pewaukee High School and enjoys being involved in a variety of different activities.

Tim Hook - From New Zealand, Tim can be found at the climbing wall and playing rugby on Doc H. A first year staff man, he is very excited about this summer in the Northwoods.

Andrew Holzman - River Chieftain has just graduated from the University of Wisconsin, and is back at camp for his 6th summer. From leading Baseball and Frisbee clubs to organizing competitions and socials, as well as helping out on the waterfront and the ski docks, Andrew is truly found all over camp.

Zach Kalter - A senior at Highland Park High School, this is his 8th year at camp and his 1st year on staff. Zach is the Co-Head of Hockey and a proud member of the Star family. From camper to counselor, Zach understands the traditions of camp and hopes to create a great summer experience for all his campers.

Ben Karbank - From Aspen, Colorado, Ben plays varsity football, hockey, and lacrosse. He has attended horseshoe as a camper for 4 years and is returning for his first year on staff. Ben also enjoys music, sailing and wake boarding.

Reese Kerlin - First year on staff, Reese will be a sophomore at Truman University in Missouri. He can be found at the climbing wall with his certification and playing all landsports on the fields.

Dan Kirkpatrick - Head of Tripping and Canadian Pointman, is certified as a water aerobics instructor, lifeguard, CPR and EMT. He has backpacked extensively in the Appalachians, the Continental Divide, and around Canada from Whistler to Banff. Originally from Tulsa, Dan is an Oklahoma State Cowboy. This is his third year at Horseshoe.

Daniel Kogan - From Highland Park, IL, will be a senior at Highland Park High School this upcoming school year and has many years of basketball and baseball experience. This summer will be his 3rd at Camp Horseshoe and 4th year in the Northwoods. As a junior counselor, Daniel is extremely excited to be a counselor for his first time. He can be found all over camp, mainly on the basketball courts and down at the waterfront.

Corey Kohn - From Northbrook IL, Corey is in his 8th year of Camp Horseshoe, 1st year at staff. Dedicated Spruce can be found on the A-field playing Lacrosse and Angleball.

Jordan Kohn - This is Jordan's 7th year at camp and his first on staff. From Highland Park, Illinois, Jordan will be a senior and also plays soccer for Highland Park High School. At the Shoe, he can be found at the climbing wall, playing soccer/voccer on Doc H, volleyball, football, trampball and more. He is also is a "Devoted" member of the Sage family.

Cody Korress - Cody is in his seventh year at Camp Horseshoe. He will be attending Tulane University in the fall. He is a certified lifeguard and can be found down at the waterfront and all around camp. A member of the Golden Horseshoe Society, this is Joyful Spruce's second year on the Camp Horseshoe staff.

Nick Korn - Skiing instructor and barefoot skiing specialist extraordinaire, junior at University of Illinois where he is majoring in natural resources and environmental sciences as well as business. He is a certified lifeguard and qualified in first aid and CPR. With eleven years of camping experience, this is his fourth on the Horseshoe staff.

Jeremy Kritt - Hailing from Deerfield, IL, Jeremy is entering his 8th year at the shoe and his 1st year as a member of the staff. Jeremy is the running back for the varsity football team at Deerfield High School and can be found at all areas of camp.

Jake Lazarus - From Deerfield, IL, Jake just finished his freshman year at Washington University in St. Louis in the Olin Business School. He was a camper at the Shoe for three years and is back after taking a short break. Jake loves all sports, especially basketball and volleyball, and plays club volleyball at college.  He is proud to be in the Wolf Family, and even prouder to be back at Horseshoe.

David Lederer - Tennis Pro and Head of Ping-pong, Leds can be found everywhere around camp. Laughing Hawk is in his eighth year at Horseshoe and his fourth as a counselor. He graduated from Highland Park High School and will be a junior at Colgate University.

Patrick 'PJ' Leigl - As a first year counselor PJ is excited about being at Camp Horseshoe. He recently received his bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and will be attending law school in St. Paul, MN this fall. Growing up in Wisconsin, PJ played a series of different sports including, football, wrestling, baseball, and track. In college PJ played on the UW-LaCrosse men's rugby team.

Andy Levitz - From Deerfield, IL, this is Andy's eighth year at Horseshoe and first year on staff. A past winning Shoe Madness captain, he can be found all over camp with track and field, basketball, and soccer. He will be a senior at Deerfield High School in the fall.

Tyler Litke - From Highland Park, Tyler has seven years of camping experience and is in his third year on the staff. A member of the Golden Horseshoe Society, Soaring Hawk can be found all over the fields and courts at the Shoe. Tyler will be a sophomore at the University of Texas.

Matt Lougee - From Upton, Wyoming, attends Black Hills State majoring in Education Social Science and getting an endorsement in coaching. He can be found all over camp enjoying basketball, football, and track. This is his second year at The Shoe.

Charlie Mackenzie-Smith - From Minneapolis, MN, Charlie has just finished his freshman year at Columbia University in New York City. He has experience with both sailing and riflery. This will be his first year at Camp Horseshoe.

Danny (Diesel) Malkin - From Glencoe, Shining Bear is in his eighth season at The Shoe and this is his third on the staff. He attends the Ross School of Business at Michigan this fall and is also a member of the Horseshoe Ski Staff.

Erika Marais - Hailing from South Africa, Erika joins the Shoe Staff for the first time this year. A certified lifeguard, she can be found down at the waterfront and all over camp playing different sports.

Brett Moss - From Deerfield, IL, this is Brett's eighth year at Horseshoe and his first on staff. He will be a senior at Deerfield High School in the fall, and can be found at the soccer fields and hockey rinks.

Peter Musumeci - From London, England, Peter has just completed his final year at Kingston University studying a Sports Science degree. He is FA Level 1 Soccer Qualified and American Red Cross Lifeguard qualified. This is Peter's 1st year at Camp Horseshoe.

Jake Padorr - 7th year at camp, first on staff. He will be a senior at Highland Park High School. Joyful Cougar can be found at the climbing wall, volleyball, and tripping.

Adam Paull - From Northbrook IL, Adam is in his 8th year of Camp Horseshoe, 1st year at staff. He is a member of the River family and can be found down at the waterfront.

Clayton Pottorff - Clayton is from outside Aspen, Colorado, and was a three sport athlete during high school, playing basketball, baseball, and football. He went on to earn all-state honors for basketball. Clay attends Black Hill State, where he is earning his degree in Education and was also a four-year starter on a basketball team that went to two NAIA Final Fours. You can find him around the courts and playing all landsports.

Ben Primer - From Highland Park, IL, Ben will be a senior at HPHS in the fall. This is his seventh year at the Shoe and first on staff. His specialty at camp is basketball, but he is an all around landsports guy.

Adam Rabushka - From Deerfield, IL, Adam specializes in track and soccer. An eight year Shoe guy, this is his first year on staff. A past Shoe Madness captain.

Alex Rosenberg - Alex will be a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A member of the Golden Horseshoe Society, Courageous Fire has ten years of camping experience, this being his third year on the staff. He loves all land sports and can be found going hard on the fields.

Alex Sacks - From Deerfield, IL, Alex will be a senior at Deerfield High School in the fall. This is his eighth year at Horseshoe and first on staff. An experienced basketball player, he can be found shooting at the courts and playing games with all ages.

Jared Saltzberg - A graduate from Highland Park High School, Jared is a certified lifeguard and all around counselor. He will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall. He has nine years of camping experience in the Northwoods, and eight at Horseshoe. A member of the Star family, this is his second year on staff at The Shoe.

Steven Saul - From South Florida, Steven will be a sophomore at Florida State University. This is his first year at Horseshoe, and was a camper for six years in North Carolina and New York. He can be found at the basketball courts and tripping shed working at fire building.

Marc Sheradsky - From Cooper City/Hollywood, FL, Marc will be a sophomore at the University of Central Florida. He can be found at the weight room with condition training, basketball courts, and waterfront. This is his first year at Horseshoe and has past experience working with kids at camps in Florida.

Jared Smith - From Highland park, IL, will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall. This year will be his eighth summer at Camp Horseshoe, and ninth year in the Northwoods. As a second year staff member, he can be found anywhere in camp, and is a certified lifeguard and excellent tripper.

Joey Smith - From Highland Park, Illinois. Joey will be a senior at Highland Park High School. He is on the varsity lacrosse team and also played two years of high school wrestling. This will be his first year on staff, 8th at Horseshoe. He is found down at the ski docks and all around camp.

Justin Spitz - This will be his 8th year at camp and 2nd on staff. Justin can primarily be found down at skiing, but also at other areas around camp. From Glencoe, IL, he just graduated from New Trier High School and will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall.

Jimmy Steinmetz - From Indianapolis, IN, Jimmy attends Indiana University Bloomington. A talented guitar player, he plays and sings harmony in a band back in Bloomington. This is Jimmy's first year at the Shoe, working at the climbing wall and all over camp.

Jonathan Stevens - From Cardiff, Wales. John graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Journalism.  He is a first time counselor specializing in soccer and golf.

Sam Wareing - also known as "Sailor Sam", he hails from England and will be starting at the University of Liverpool John Moores studying Pharmacy. This is his first year at the Shoe, and can be found most of the time on the waterfront teaching sailing and kayaking. He is a qualified instructor in England and also enjoys rugby.

Zach Warren - Zach is in his 7th summer at Camp Horseshoe and this is his first year on staff. He has a wide variety of athletic strengths such as baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, and waterfront staff. He will be a senior at Highland Park High School in the fall.

Rafi Wasserman - This is Rafi's 7th year at Camp Horseshoe and first year on staff. He can normally be found on the soccer fields or other land sports. Rafi will be a senior in the fall at Highland Park High School after a great summer at The Shoe.

Daniel Webster - From London, England. this is Dan's first year at camp. He is currently following in his brother's footsteps. Dan has a national diploma in horticulture and is searching for a golf course to continue his training to become a greenkeeper.  He is a qualified lifeguard and soccer coach.

Blake Willerman - From Glencoe, IL, will be attending the University of Texas in the fall.  Radiant Falcon, his camp alias, has nine years of camping experience and is returning for his second year on staff.  He can be found in numerous land sport activities and has been recently proclaimed as the Forester 1 chieftain.

Geoffrey Williams - From New Zealand, this is Geoff's first year on staff. A certified climber, you can find him at the wall, on different trips, and all around camp.

Alec Wise - From Highland Park, IL, attends the University of Illinois. He is in his third year on staff specializing in basketball, his 7th year at Horseshoe overall. Brave Dancer loves all land sports and will gladly cross lacrosse sticks with you.

Ryan "Ziggy" Ziegler - Ryan is going to be a fifth-year senior at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He is studying Broadfield Social Studies Education and is currently the Vice President of the UWL Rugby Club. While this is his first year at Camp Horseshoe, he cannot wait to make a ton of memories. At the Shoe, he can definitely be found tearing up the baseball, football, frisbee, and rugby fields.

Health Center

Madeleine O'Donnell, RN - Madeleine is from Nashville, Tennessee where she is pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing degree at Vanderbilt University.  She will work as a nurse practioner post-graduation specializing in Oncology and Hematology with a dual focus in Pediatrics. Madeleine holds certifications in CPR, ACLS, and First Aid, and works with the homeless youth population of Nashville as well as acutely ill children at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  While growing up, Madeleine spent all of her summers in Northern Wisconsin, so she is thrilled to be working in the great Northwoods for the summer. This is her first year at Horseshoe.

Erin Wimberly, RN, BSN - Erin is a native of Mobile, AL. and the greater gulf coast. She received her RN, BSN from the University of South Alabama and is currently seeking her doctorate of nursing practice in acute/adult care. She has been nursing for 6 years in acute care specializing in med-surg, pediatrics, mother-baby, and women's health. She has also worked as a travel nurse for 3.5 years licensed in AL., FL., WA., TX., NY., MS., and now the great state of Wisconsin! Erin is certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, & NRP. This is her first year at camp horseshoe...YAY!

Bridget Yeatts, RN - Bridget is from Dallas, Texas has been a registered nurse for two years. I graduated with a BSN from Texas Woman's University and I am currently working on my MSN from Walden University. I have been a school nurse with the Dallas Independent School District for two years at an elementary school, which I love! I am also very involved with community health nursing at the local health department, administering immunizations and seasonal flu shots. Children are my passion and working in pediatrics has always been a joy. During nursing school I worked at Children's Medical Center in Dallas on the GI floor and the chronic cases that I worked with is what made me decide to become a school nurse. I love the daily interaction with the children and I am excited to be involved at Camp Horseshoe where I can see healthy children interact and play on a daily basis! I am certified in CPR and basic life support. This is my first year as a camp nurse!

Amy Wojtusik RN, BSN - A native of Rhinelander WI she has a background in emergency and critical care with an emphasis in forensic nursing. Amy has been a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for 13 years. She is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course, Neonatal Advanced Life Support, and a Trauma Nurse Specialist. She is an active member in the Emergency Nurses Association and the International Association of Forensic Nurses. This is Amy's 1st year at Camp Horseshoe.

Kitchen

Patricia Karaba - Head Chef: Pat has been living in the Rhinelander area for 12 years. Previous to moving to Rhinelander, Pat owned and operated her own dairy farm. She currently works as the Assistant Food Service Director for the Rhinelander school district where they prepare an approximated 1800 meals a day. She spent 3 summers as the head cook at an all girl's overnight camp in the Northwoods. She has 4 children and 3 grandchildren. This his her first year at The Shoe and will hopefully be here for many years to come.

Kay Theis - Kay has lived in the Rhinelander area for the last six years and in her first year at Camp Horseshoe. Kay is a nother as well as grandmother. In the offseason Kay works in the food service for the Rhinelander public school system.

Office

Biz Rohlwing - Camp Videographer/Photographer from Chicago, IL recently graduated from Tribeca Flashpoint Academy with a degree in Film Production. She uploads daily pictures, as well as making the yearbook DVD. This is Biz's second summer working as a camp videographer and her first summer at Camp Horseshoe.

Claire Muldowney - "Hello Camp Horseshoe"; from Manchester, England, Claire will be working in the office for her first summer at the Shoe. Whilst studying corporate law at Manchester Met University, Claire is also a member of the netball team.
